What To Expect

ALCOHOL

The island itself is a "dry island", meaning no alcohol can be sold or purchased here...That's right...we do it old school BYOA! (Bring your own alcohol).  Any and all alcohol you need for your trip will need to be purchased off island and brought over with you.

CASH CASH CASH

The islands' internet service isn't as reliable as on the mainland and therefore credit cards don't work as well, so please be prepared to bring cash and checks with you on your trip.

RENTALS

There are NO bike, kite, kayak, paddleboard, paddleboat, jet ski, or any of this type of rental available on the island.  Please bring with you what you will need/want and make sure to check with your mode of transport to the island to make sure there is room aboard for all your items.

WIFI/VIDEO GAMES & MORE:

There is NO WIFI at the Avalon and the island itself has spots where this works but it’s best to plan to leave that behind.  We do have LAWN GAMES & BOARD GAMES but we cannot guarantee specifics as things tend to get broken, lost, or even added after each season.

HOUSE HOLD ITEMS:

Our KTICHEN is fully furnished with most everything you will need while staying with us: coffee makers (and filters!), toaster, microwave, blender, plates, silverware, cloth napkins, dish towels, cooking utensils, pots and pans, baking needs as well as a few different spices left behind or donated to the Avalon

supply.  Please note we may not have your specific need so plan accordingly.

BEDROOMS are complete with all linens, and BATHROOMS with all towels, soap, garbage bags, paper towels and of course toliet paper!  You will need to bring your own shampoo/conditioner, and any other toiletries you may need.

FOOD

Cuttyhunk island is very laid back and doesn’t run on specific times or menus. The 2 places to eat are typically only open July & August, one for breakfast and one for lunch/dinner.  Other than that you will find a small market on island, fresh seafood on the dock, and a small café with treats and sandwiches. When staying on the island it is best to bring with you what you will want/need for your stay.  Our Ferry and Water Taxi, as well as our freight guy, are well versed in loading up large amounts of groceries and luggage.

ARRIVING TO THE ISLAND AND THE AVALON

Please note that if you are arriving via private boat, which usually doesn't have an exact arrival time like the ferry or water taxi, and are staying with us at the AVALON you will need to rent a golf cart through us for at least that one arrival day (unless you are renting one for your entire stay) to get you from the marina to the house - as well as contact our hosts about 30 minutes prior to docking so that they can be ready for your arrival to the house.

For those arriving via Ferry or Water Taxi you will have the option of having Island Freight take your bags up to the Avalon for you. They work on a cash basis of $2 per bag (this is in addition to the luggage fee that the ferry has). This is a local service and a way for you to help contribute to the overall island economy and support local island businesses. Private boaters do not have this option unfortunately.
